I'm enlarging a previous Armstrong painting
and thought it a good idea,to show you how i work...
this is an 20x30" acrylic on canvas
step 1 is putting down the darks
the canvas is tonned with a grey purple ground
this kills the white canvas,saves work on the greys
and provides some color harmony.
step2 starting to mess about with some colors,
trying to soften background edges and sharpen the figure.
things are taking shape,
for me it's important to keep things simple and fresh,
not to overdo the painting into boredom.
movement and atmosphere speaks more to me
than details
the viewer is not stupid and can be involved
into filling in the painting
more tomorrow
